1Grease a large cookie sheet. Set aside.

2In a heavy 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, bring sugar , corn syrup , water , and salt to a boil. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Stir in peanuts .sugar: 1 c, corn syrup: 1/2 c, water: 4 tbsp, salt: 1/4 tsp, peanuts: 1 c

3Set candy thermometer in place, and continue cooking. Stir frequently until the temperature reaches 300°F (150°C), or until a small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water separates into hard and brittle threads.

4Remove from heat; immediately stir in softened butter and baking soda ; pour at once onto the 13" x 18" rimmed baking sheet . With two forks , lift and pull peanut mixture into a rectangle, about 14x12 inches; cool.butter: 2 Tbsp, baking soda: 1 tsp
